Surry Labradors is located on beautiful Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, near the greater Charleston area. Elizabeth Wenner is a research scientists by profession and has devoted most of her spare time over the last 17 years to Labradors. Additional interests include sailing, rowing, gardening, photography, web design and music (Most of the dogs are named after favorite artists Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan). The main house is a replica of the Rolfe-Warren House, one of the James River plantations built in 1652 and located in Surry Virginia. The name Surry for the house and kennel reflects the location of the original house. The kennel has 5 main turnout paddocks and is under the shade of live oak trees.
The kennel also has a misting system by Ecologic Technologies that keeps the dogs cool during hot South Carolina summers. Our Policy We are dedicated to improvement of the breed. Our activities with dogs include membership in the Labrador Retriever Club of the Piedmont, the Greater Atlanta Labrador Retriever Club, the National Labrador Club, the Labrador Retriever Club, Inc., the Coastal South Carolina Labrador Retriever Club, and the Charleston Kennel Club. Elizabeth is also an AKC judge for Labrador Retrievers. It is our intent to assure that the dogs produced by us will receive the best care and will be protected from indiscriminate and unethical breeding so that the outstanding qualities of health, temperament and versatility are maintained and enhanced. We provide a complete packet of information with every puppy including a history of the breed, list of reference books, suggestions for care, articles on genetic problems with the breed, pedigrees, pictures of the sire and dam, and other articles of interest to new owners. To be a good breeder necessitates continuous learning - about genetics, pedigrees, medical advancements, and generally what works and what doesn't. While we continue to educate ourselves, we also try to educate prospective Labrador owners about this wonderful versatile breed. We hope you have enjoyed this information about Surry.
